The 7 Principles

Here’s a chance to gain practice making your marriage work.

Did you know people can stay present and listen for about 8 to 10 minutes? That’s it! If sitting still, getting lectured at, and taking notes for hours makes you cringe, then you’re in the right place.

Learning from afar can get rather dull. Even reading Dr. Gottman’s Seven Principles book could put you to sleep!

The best way to prep your relationship for long-term fulfillment is with hands-on experience. This psychoeducational workshop will consist of a little lecture and considerable interaction.

You’ll be interacting one-on-one with your partner to practice new skills that you can implement immediately. I’ll be there to guide you.

Do you worry about sharing with the group?

Don’t! No public discussion or disclosure is involved.

This workshop and its content are based on the New York Times bestseller The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by Dr. John Gottman, Ph. D.

Drs. Julie and John Gottman gained prominence in couples therapy by taking their ideas to the lab. Literally, to the “Love Lab”! For over 30 years, they scientifically analyzed the habits of married couples in their lab to determine what makes marriages work. Their combined knowledge and wisdom of studies and clinical practice resulted in an evidence-based method to strengthen relationships and make love last.

Male Martians? Women from Venus? What? These are just ideas that are not backed by science. Perhaps you don’t remember this book! Dr. Gottman’s principles are not simply a trend but are rooted in research and are here to stay. There are no mysteries here! There is no need to guess how to make your relationship work.

The Seven Principles provides a clear-cut, logical program for winning at love. These core principles are what every healthy relationship needs.

Here’s the “how to” you’ll get from the world’s leading love experts:

  • deepen your knowledge of one another,
  • foster a friendship built on respect, affection, and closeness,
  • recognize and respond to bids for emotional connection,
  • be open to influence
  • stimulate greater understanding and manage conflict when you’re stuck.

Who is this workshop for?

This course is exactly what you need if you’re a couple who is:

  • pre-engaged (those considering marriage)
  • engaged (those taking steps towards marriage)
  • married (without significant struggles)
  • wishing to enhance an already “good” marriage or relationship
  • wanting to avoid feeling like roommates

Who is this workshop not for?

Please reconsider if:

  • there is active alcohol or drug addiction that is not being addressed by a recovery program.
  • there is serious violence in your relationship, threats by one or both partners that serious violence might occur, or fear of serious violence.
  • either partner currently has an untreated major mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar, or dissociative identity disorder).
  • there is an undisclosed or current affair that either partner is unwilling to give up.
  • either partner is currently experiencing suicidal or homicidal thoughts or has a history of serious suicide attempts or harm to others.

The Seven Principles workshop is not a good fit for couples with the abovementioned situations. You matter; if you’re experiencing these problems, you might benefit from more intensive private or individual therapy.

This class is not group therapy or a replacement for couples therapy. It’s a platform for learning how to strengthen your long-term relationship.
